Delighted that the St John’s Preparatory School Choir have confirmed their residency at Chateau Vermont this March. The choir of children aged 8 to 11 will be collaborating with the Jersey Colleges Preparatory School Choir during their residency. Several performances will take place during their stay, all of which are free of charge and open to the public:
• Mon 9th March, 3pm, Medieval Great Hall, Mont Orgueil Castle: The choir will perform a short set of songs in the Medieval Great Hall at Mont Orgueil Castle at 3pm on Monday 9th March 2020. The performance will last approximately 15-20mins, and will be an atmospheric experience in a dramatic setting, open to all visitors of the castle that day.
• Tue 10th March, 7.30pm, Jersey Academy of Music, Chateau Vermont: Joined by a wide range of local young soloists and small ensembles from the Jersey Academy of Music, the choir will perform a varied programme of music interspersed with instrumental performances.
• Wed 11th March, 4.30pm, Jersey College for Girls Hall: The finale of the tour is a combined concert with the JCPrep School Choir, featuring a joint choral performance alongside solo performances from some senior young musicians from JCG.
The visiting choir will be looked after during their visit by Chateau Vermont’s Local Tour Liaison Claire Harvey, and have a packed schedule which also includes educational activities at Durrell, guided tours of the War Tunnels, Jersey Museum, and Mont Orgueil, choral coaching with local specialist Imogen Nicholls including an ‘open rehearsal’ with her award-winning choir the Musical Originals Singers, and a guided backstage tour of the Jersey Opera House.
The onsite catering at Chateau Vermont features a special Jersey themed menu with bean crock, nettle soup, crab cakes, and black butter cheesecake with Jersey ice cream! Storyteller Paul Journeaux will also be telling bedtime stories to the group about Jersey myths and legends.
Message from Paula Bowman, Head of Music at St John’s Preparatory School: “St. John’s Prep. School Choir performs at many school events throughout the year and also represents the school in the local community and at festivals and competitions, both in this country and abroad. The children have been working hard on their concert repertoire and they are so excited to be visiting Jersey for the first time. They look forward to discovering the island and to performing at some of its most beautiful and unique venues.”
